What began in 1956 as the Waynesville Recreation Development Commission, became a line department under the Town of Waynesville in 1975. In 1984, an old town Armory was remodeled and the Town had it's first Recreation Center.

On December 18, 2000, the new Waynesville Recreation Center was officially opened. Today, the Waynesville Parks and Recreation Department mananges five parks, six tennis courts, over 55 acres of land and two Recreation Centers.

Over the many years there have been countless volunteers and dedicated employees that have spent numerous hours forming the parks and recreation for the people in this area to enjoy for several years to come.

It is our department's honor and pleasure to continue this high level of performance that the general public deserves. We will always do this to the best of our ability. These are your parks, your facilities and your programs.

We, at the Waynesville Parks and Recreation Department, are here for you. We look forward to seeing you soon!
